Jessee: Senior 2008

0130_jessee_senior.jpg

Jessee is an awesome girl! She is sweet and has an explosive laugh. Her family lives way out in the rural country. Jessee may be a pretty girly-girl blonde, but she is not that way in person. She is smart, shoots rifles competitively and is direct, outgoing and assertive. Her personality is super cool and she reminds me of one of my sisters (in a good way!).

Her wonderful mom and sister joined us for the shoot (cameras, not rifles!) at the historic Unity. They were all three too much fun to handle and I think we all had a good time.

Ornery girl.

The sign behind her says “Pool Closed”. You’ll see why a bit later. :-)

Pretty in Pink! She found this rad dress on clearance and got it just for the shoot. THAT is shopping dedication!

Haha! You’re right! I LOVE her laugh. And the way she throws her head back when she laughs. Haylee has the most contagious laugh ever though. I see you guys had fun. I still haven’t seen all the pictures, but there are so many that I love, I have no clue which one is my favorite!

Katie: Senior 2008

stepanek_0087.jpg

Lee’s Summit West senior, Katie, rocked the house with her location recommendation. I had never shot at this particular park in Lee’s Summit, and it was a perfect day for some fun photos and she was even willing to break some rules with me to get some fun shots by a beautiful little water garden (people, please don’t tell the Parks & Rec that we trespassed! Shhh!) Ha! :-)

Katie is quiet and thougthful. She is very active in local theatre, not only at her school, but also all around the city. She adores being backstage and making the shows come alive with her set and lighting designs. I can’t wait to catch a showing of one of her plays.

Wow. That really rocks. Katie is a person who won’t show off how truly pretty she is, but I thought it was all very well captured in these pictures.

  4. ashley m

  6. Brian - Genxtek

Great work… love the last image. I really enjoy seeing photographers capture the inner and outer beauty of their subject in the same image and you did this in them all. I’m sure she must love them… you guys worked great together!

    Girl! You look wonderful!

From the Archives: #002

From the Archives: #002

This image was shot a long time ago with my first session using my strobes. I used a large softbox with my AB800 and a reflective umbrella with my AB400. I used a video screen for the background on this particular shot, although white paper works just as well.  I love my Alien Bees.

The light tan gradient was set over the original white background and set to normal layer mode. A new subtle texture layer was set over the entire image and set to color burn. The layer was duplicated and the opacity dropped a little to give it a bit of edgy intensity.

Sidenote:
For those that know me, they know I am a BIG family guy. I came from a large family and love being around my family. I am the oldest of 5. My middle sister, Hannah, got married a year ago and moved with her chef husband, Kyle, to Hawaii. I have news regarding them! They are moving home to Kansas City! Here is Happy Hannah as we all know her smiling face (oddly enough, from the same shoot, just different processing). She looks just like my mom. Goodness!

Happy Hannah
